Coach Bryan Snider has been with the Lakettes since 1985. Prior to that he coached the McNicoll Park Jr. Girls Field Hockey Team from 1979-1984. His first team was a midget boys hockey team, who became League Champs in the Pt. Grey Minor Hockey League at the end of the 1968-69 season, at UBC. Since then he has coached High School Soccer, Minor Soccer, Sr. Boys, Jr. Boys, and Jr. Girls Basketball, Tennis, Wrestling, Gymnastics, Track and Field, volleyball, and even Football. Since 1989 Coach Snider's teams (spring and fall) have won 10 of a possible 13 Okanagan Championships, 5 Provincial Championships, 5 silver medals, and 3 bronze medals. As a player, he was a left inner with UBC in the late 60's and more recently won a bronze medal at the B.C. Summer games in 1992, as a player.) Since 1989, his teams' winning percentage is .829 - 373 wins, 77 losses, and 45 ties. He has taken his beloved Lakettes to the Provincial Championships every year since he took over the team in 1985. Snider has a Bachelor of Physical Education degree from the University of British Columbia, and a Master of Education degree (Administration and Curriculum majors) from Gonzaga University.
Jim French joined Coach Snider in 1993, and has been with the team through thick and thin (mostly thick) until announcing his retirement from the Lakettes at the end of the 2000 season.
Prior to 1993, Coach French had a successful career as a high school soccer coach, and found that the carry-over between soccer and field hockey was huge. Mr. French became the team's defensive specialist, and worked closely with the fullbacks in particular.
Snider and French took their teams to Europe in the spring of 1995, and to Australia and New Zealand in the summer of 2000 on two fabulous three week tours. The teams came home from both tours with a winning record, but learned much from their intercontinental opponents, not only about intricacies of the game, but about the culture, history, and geography of the areas visited. Most important were the lifelong friendships established in other parts of the world.
Jo Ann Perry picked up where Jim French left off, for the fall 2001 season. Mrs. Perry has had a successful coaching career with the Jr. Lakettes (winning several Valley Championships) and fall 0f 2000 with the AA Lakettes, who also had a fine season. She has been involved in the coaching of various community field hockey teams in the springtime. Jo Ann is also on the executive of B.C. Women's Field Hockey and Field Hockey Canada.
The Lakettes are pleased to announce that Christy Bevington has joined Coach Snider for the 2002 season (and hopefully beyond!) Christy played for the Lakettes as a star right winger in the falls of 1989 and 1990. She was a big part of the Lakettes Provincial Championship Team in 1990. She also played on Penticton's Gold Medal winning Under 18 teams in 1989 and 1990. (All three of those teams were coached by Coach Snider.) It is most rewarding to have a member of the Lakettes Alumni not only return to teach at Pen-Hi, but also to rejoin the team as a Coach! Coach Bevington's first coaching experience came in 1992 when she assisted Coach Snider with the U14 B.C. Interior squad that came away with the bronze medal in the National Tournament held in Calgary. (That team tied for first place, but was awarded the bronze after a goals for and against tie breaker decision.) Coach Bevington coached the Jr. Lakettes for the past two fall seasons, in 2000 and 2002.
