An old proverb states that "It takes a village to raise a child." It also takes a community to raise a successful team! The Lakettes are lucky to receive outstanding support from their school (Good Old Penticton Secondary, known affectionately by the locals as Pen-Hi) and their School Board (School District #67). Our school district's Maintenance Staff, for example go out of their way to keep our fields and facilities in excellent condition. Our school's administrators, teachers and students are out in great numbers to cheer the team on, especially in the really big games. The City of Penticton and the city's service clubs have provided great support as well. And then there is our fantastic Alumni! One of the keys to our team's success is the great work the coaches and players do at the younger level. Many community, elementary, and jr. high school coaches give up countless hours, and immeasureable expertise and energy throughout the year, to prepare players to step up to the Senior High Level. We are told that many players and their parents wish to become part of the Lakettes Field Hockey Family from an early age. The city's media (Penticton Herald, The Western, CKOR and Great Valleys Radio, and CHBC Television) provide outstanding coverage. What a fine team effort!

The photo below is of the Lakettes and the Media, following the 2001 Media Challenge Game. The Lakettes won the game 4-1, but Wally Hild (cap, white shirt) was the first (and only as of Sept. 25) opponent to score a goal on goalie Stephanie Garcia! The assists went to Pat Kennedy (white shirt, front row) and David Crompton (back row, royal blue shirt).
