Below Is The Official Logo of the Lakettes Field Hockey Team. This Logo was designed in the summer of 1997, at about the same time the Vancouver Canucks Logo was designed. The Canucks Logo cost the team several thousand dollars, while the Lakettes Logo was absolutely free! The Background of the Logo is actually purple rather than the bergundy which may appear below. The stylized "P" represents Penticton Secondary School, or Pen-Hi, while the circles represent noth only the field hockey ball, but the bright Okanagan sun and moon as well. The wave represents the water of Okanagan Lake, and the nine stripes and white crest of the water represent the ten major components of the Lakettes Field Hockey Family: The Players, the Coaches, the Parents, the Alumni, the School's Staff and Administration, Pen-Hi's Students, The School Board, The Board's Maintenance Department, Pen-Hi's "Feeder Schools" and last but not least, the People of Penticton.
Pictured below is the fabulous Lakettes Team of 1990, the only Pen-Hi Field Hockey Team that has been able to win that elusive Provincial Championship! In 1989 the team had finished second--much higher than any previous Lakettes Team--with only 4 grade 12 players. They had come within a heartbeat of winning it all, losing 2-1 to Maple Ridge in the Final, after beating the same team 2-0 in pool play, a day earlier. In 1990, the players were absolutely determined not to be denied, and they weren't, winning 2-0 over Cowichan in the Final. Will the 2002 team be able to accomplish the feat? Time will tell. The Lakettes treasure their wonderful Alumni, who support the Lakettes so well, long after they graduate from Pen-Hi. Rachel Peters (left) and Janet Filipenko, have gone on to star for the University of Victoria Vikes, which won the Canadian University Women's Field Hockey Championship in November, 2000.
Several other Lakettes have gone on to star for University, College, both in Canada and the U.S. and on B.C. Provincial Teams. Many of the Alumni play in the Annual Alumni Game each November, at Pen-Hi, and several of them send the team e-mail messages (which are warmly received) at the beginning of a new season, or prior to playoffs.
Most recently, (Sept. 2003) Alyssa Collis has received a "full ride" at Virginia Commonwealth University, in Richmond, Virginia, and Megan Rorie is going to the American International University in Springfield Massachusetts. At least 10 former Lakettes played on Unversity teams during the past season.
Above Janet and Rachel is a photo of the 2000 Lakettes, who won their league and finished 4th in the Provincials.
